The wait is almost over for fans of pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne. The singer announced that her long-awaited fourth album, Goodbye Lullaby will be released on 8 March 2011.
Too long to wait? Fret not. Avril is set to release the first single, What The Hell, on 31 December. She described the song as "an unabashed embrace of fun and freedom." Is she refering to her divorce from Deryck Whibley?
In a letter posted on her website, Avril told fans that she has actually finished the album a year ago but is frustrated that her record label decided to postpone the release.
"Not only is this the most meaningful and special record I have written," Avril said of the album, "it is sincere, honest and close to my heart. But for the first time, I experienced a bunch of bureaucratic BS.
She gave a hint of what fans can expect from Goodbye Lullaby. "This album is different ... I'm older now, so I think that comes across in my music, it's not as pop-rock and it's a little more mellow and it's deep," Avril revealed. "But my first single is very 'up' and pop-rock. The first single is very much like my older stuff, but the rest of the album is a departure."
